Having a clean inbox is essential to getting more done and freeing up your time so you can do more of the things you want to do.
I teach The Art of Less Doing, a framework for productivity I developed to help people optimize, automate, and outsource everything in their lives to be more effective. I'm constantly thinking and writing about new ways to save time and get more done.
Having a clean inbox is essential for being more productive, and achieving it is not hard when you have the right methods and tools.
How It Works
Over the next 10 days, you'll get Gmail set up so every email that hits your inbox is important & actionable and (more importantly) you'll practice clearing your inbox every day. Here's how it'll work:
- Advice. I'll teach you how to process your inbox by showing you exactly what I do when I check my emails. I'll also show you how to set up some of the tools, plugins and add-on services that I use to be more effective every day.
- Daily Practice. Your job is simple - clean up all of the old emails you have lying around and then hit Inbox Zero at least once each day. And here's the kicker: I'll monitor the number of emails your inbox along the way (via a Gmail plugin) and encourage you to keep after it.
- Group Support. Maybe you never loved middle school, but the buddy system works. On the first day, you'll be placed into a group of four like-minded individuals. These people will act as your supporters and teammates. More importantly, they'll help keep you accountable to your daily practice.
What You'll Walk Away With
This program revolves around a skill set you need to develop - "processing" emails - and over time you will get better and faster at it.
But what I really want you to walk away with is a better ability to differentiate between Essential vs. Optional. Just because I'm always focusing on trimming the fat and paring things down to their most basic and efficient elements does not mean I do not enjoy the optional things in life. As a matter of fact, everything I talk about in my blog (the entire framework of optimize, automate, and outsource) is meant to free up your time and your mind so that you can do the things you really want to and not just the things you have to.
